How to keep track of supplies easily.

I think we should take a page out of Battlestar's book and use adjustable wheels to track such things as: food, water, population, gasoline, maybe even ammunition and hygiene/disease. Population shouldn't reach zero but having a high population means you will need to find more and more food. I have a lot more on this and I have time after school. hope to see you then BK.

That sounds pretty sweet.
I was actually thinking of using population as a resource as a way of taking some of the sting out of dying. As in, if you have extra people, then if someone dies they can keep playing, but otherwise you need to wait to find more survivors to get back in game.
